National Housing Trust Fund

Have you ever heard of the National Housing Trust Fund?

The NHTF is a federal program passed under President George W. Bush in 2007 to increase access to affordable housing among the country’s lowest income individuals and families. Funding for the program was to come from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac… But the recession happened first, and well, that was that.

Flash forward and Connecticut and other states are almost at the point of receiving funds from Fannie and Freddie for the NHTF. Under this program, 90 percent of funds received must be used for rental housing for extremely and very low income households.
