Many Connecticut communities have come to realize that having an adequate supply of housing affordable to households of different ages and incomes contributes to a municipality’s vibrancy and economic competitiveness. But what constitutes “affordable” housing?
One way to answer that question is using the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure, Section 8-30g of the Connecticut General Statutes. Since 1989 the Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure has promoted the development of low-cost housing with long-term affordability protections. The requirements of apply to all municipalities, unless they have been found to be exempt by the Department of Housing (DOH).
